How we check prices
Every price on StackZen is read from the vendor's own pricing page and dated. This page explains the rest: what happens when a page can't be read, how the yearly bill is worked out, and what the score does and doesn't mean.
Where the prices come from
Plans, prices and limits come from each vendor's pricing page and, where the page points to them, its help docs. We record which pages we read and when, and show both on the tool's page. Prices are in US dollars as listed, before tax.
When a price can't be verified
Some pricing pages block automated reading or only appear in a browser. When we can't read one, the tool is marked as not verified, its cost calculator is switched off and the page says so. We don't fill the gap with estimates.
How the cost calculator works
The calculator multiplies the listed price by its unit: per-seat prices by the number of people, flat monthly prices by twelve, yearly prices once. It uses the price the vendor shows first, which is often the rate for paying yearly; the plan notes say when paying monthly costs more. Usage charges, add-ons, overages and taxes are not included.
What the score measures
Some tools carry a score out of 5. It is computed, not assigned: up to 35 points for documented capabilities, 25 for publishing prices, 20 for a free way in and 20 for a published list of integrations. It measures how much you can check before you pay, not how pleasant the tool is to use. Tools we haven't scored show no score at all.
What we don't do
We don't test-drive the tools or run benchmarks. Pages are desk research from vendor documentation and public sources, written and checked by the StackZen desk.
How we earn
Prices, plan limits, scores, the order of any list and what a page says are the same with or without a partnership. A tool without a partner link gets exactly the same page, and its next step is a comparison or its alternatives instead.
