Reverse Trial

A reverse trial flips the usual freemium sequence: instead of starting users on a limited free plan and asking them to upgrade, you give every new signup the full premium experience for a set window - say 14 days - and then automatically downgrade them to a permanent free tier if they don't convert. The logic is behavioral: people anchor on what they've experienced, and letting users feel the premium features first creates a stronger pull than dangling locked features they've never touched. It combines the low-friction acquisition of freemium (there's still a free plan to fall back to, so signup risk is low) with the urgency and full-value exposure of a time-boxed trial. Reverse trials work best when your premium value is obvious quickly and the downgraded free tier is genuinely usable rather than crippled. Watch the conversion and post-downgrade retention numbers together: the goal is not just trial-to-paid conversion, but keeping downgraded users engaged enough to convert later.
