Is Kit right for you?

Good for

  • Creator newsletters and paid newsletters

  • Moving a list over from another email platform

Skip it if

  • You need automations on a free plan, since Free excludes visual automations and sequences
  • You need a fixed, published price for a list far above 1,000 subscribers before you sign up
  • You run an online shop that needs deep e-commerce segmentation rather than creator and newsletter tools

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Free plan for up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited forms, landing pages and email broadcasts
  • Unlimited visual automations and email sequences from the Creator plan
  • Sells digital products and subscriptions from the same account as the newsletter
  • Free migration from another platform, with forms, templates and automations rebuilt by Kit's team

Cons

  • Visual automations and email sequences are not available on the Free plan
  • Prices are published only for the 1,000-subscriber tier, so the cost at a larger list has to be checked in your account
  • Creator allows 2 users and 2-subject-line A/B tests; unlimited users and up to 5 subject lines need Pro
  • Digital product sales carry a 3.5% + 30c fee on top of the plan price

Questions

Does Kit have a free plan?

Yes. Free costs $0 for up to 10,000 subscribers and includes unlimited forms, landing pages and email broadcasts, tagging and segmentation, A/B testing on broadcasts and digital product sales. Visual automations, email sequences, rules, RSS campaigns and paid apps in the Kit App Store need a paid plan. Past 10,000 subscribers you must upgrade to keep sending. Kit's help centre does not state a sending limit for Free.

What is the difference between Creator and Pro?

Creator adds unlimited visual automations and email sequences, subject-line A/B testing, SMS marketing, removal of Kit branding, apps and integrations, and 24/7 email and chat support, with 2 users. Pro adds Subscriber Signals, a Growth Concierge team, engagement analytics, deliverability reporting, engagement scoring, unlimited users, collaborative editing, content A/B tests with up to 5 subject lines, a newsletter referral system and priority support.

How does Kit pricing change as my list grows?

Kit bills by confirmed subscribers, in tiers. When you exceed your tier you move up automatically, while moving down is manual through Account & Billing and takes effect on your next billing date if your count is still below the lower limit. The pricing page shows prices only for 1,000 subscribers, so check the tier for your own list size before committing.

Is $33 a month the price if I pay monthly?

Not necessarily. The pricing page shows $33 a month for Creator alongside a yearly total of $390 and a "pay yearly, save 17%" label, which indicates that $33 is the yearly-billed rate. Pro is shown at $66 a month on the same basis. The page does not display a separate month-to-month price, so confirm it at checkout. Kit also lists a 14-day free trial with no card required.

Is Kit the same product as ConvertKit?

Yes. ConvertKit was renamed Kit. Kit's announcement ties the change to its Craft + Commerce 2024 event and says the new name better reflects a broader goal of being an operating system for the creator economy.

Does Kit have an API?

Yes. Kit API V4 is the current version and V3 is deprecated. Kit's developer documentation says the account's plan must be eligible for API access, and its help centre lists API access among Free plan features. Check the pricing page for the plans that apply before you build an integration.

Does Kit charge fees for selling products?

Yes. The pricing page lists 3.5% + 30c for digital product sales on each plan and a 23.5% fee on Paid Recommendations earnings for Creator and Pro. These come on top of the subscription price.
