If a workflow watches a record and then updates a record, sends a notification or fires a webhook, Airtable runs that natively inside the base, included in the plan you are already paying for, with no task counter attached to it. For teams whose operations already live in Airtable this is the cheapest automation change available, and it usually goes unexamined precisely because it is not what anybody searches for. The boundary is exactly where you would expect: the moment the workflow has to reach a second system, you need a connector again, and Airtable is not one. Treat this as an audit rather than a migration. Open your task history, count what starts and ends inside a single tool, and move only those.
ClickUp makes the same argument as Airtable for a different shape of work. If your Zaps are moving tasks between states, assigning owners, creating follow-ups when something closes or posting updates when a status changes, that is automation inside a project tracker, and ClickUp does it natively on a per-seat plan that is the cheapest of the workspace tools in our data. Teams that consolidate onto it frequently find a third of their Zap volume was internal bookkeeping. The same caveat applies as with Airtable, and it applies more strongly: this is not a connector, and anything crossing into a second system still needs one.
